WPMspeed

Copying / Composing

Two tasks.
Two different paces.

Traditional tests: copy what you see

A traditional typing test supplies words and measures how quickly and accurately you reproduce them. That is useful for practicing key placement and transcription. You still need to read and process the text, but you do not have to decide what to say.

Freeform tests: decide what to say

WPM Speed gives you a topic, then leaves the writing to you. You choose the words, organize sentences, pause, and edit. The result describes your pace for that particular writing task.

Compare like with like

A lower freeform result does not mean your keyboard skills got worse. A familiar topic, an unfamiliar keyboard, or a complicated idea can change your pace. Compare attempts with similar conditions and the same test duration. There is no conversion formula between copying speed and composing speed.

What is Freeform WPM?

It is the final character count divided by five and by elapsed minutes while writing your own text. It describes output over time, including pauses. The number does not measure intelligence, creativity, writing quality, or your thoughts.
